Here is the equation:

20-E / 4000 = 12 - T / 2000

The answer is: T = E + 2

But I do not see how....please help step by step on how to get this answer.

I got it!

Here it is:

20 - 2E / 4000 = 12 - T / 2000

= 2000 (20-E) / 4000 = 12 - T

10 - E = 12 - T

10 - E = 12 (-12) - T

-(12) + 10 - E = -T

- E + -2 = - T

Divide both sides by -T or - 1

E + 2 = T

you have a ratio....cross multiply

2000(20-E) = 4000(12-T)
20 - E = 2(12 - T)
.............= 24 - 2T
-4 - E = -2T
2 + E = T

20-E / 4000 = 12 - T / 2000

2000(20 - E) = 4000(12 - T)

2000(20 - E) / 4000 = 4000(12 - T) / 4000

2000(20 - E) / 4000 = 12 - T

1 (20 - E)/2 = 12 - T

20/2 - E/2 = 12 - T

10 - E/2 = 12 - T

10 - E/2 - 12 - = 12 - T - 12

- E/2 - 2 = - T

-1(-E/2) - 1 (- 2) = -1(- T)

E/2 + 2 = T

The answer is T = E/2 + 2

If the original equation is:
(20 - E)/4000 = (12 - T)/2000

then
20 - E = 24 - 2T
2T = 4 + E
T = E/2 + 2
After seeing all of our answers, and we all agree, I think we have to also agree that the answer in the book is a typo !

first multiply by 4000, this gives you
80000-E=48000-2T
now divide by 2 so you have
40,000 - E/2 = 24,000 -T

take T to the other side and the 40,000 and E/2 as well and you get
T= -16,000+E/2

there's your answer, but did you mean to write (20-E)/4000 = (12-T)/2000?

if so, then again, first multiply by 4000, this gives you
20-E=24-2T
switching things around...
2T = E+4

or

T = E/2 + 2

still not your answer but closer. Are you sure about what you wrote?

2000(20-E)/4000=12-T
cancel 2000 and 40000
20-E/2=12-T
20-E=2(12-T)
distribute 2
20-E=24-2T
transpose 24
20-24-E=-2T
-E-4=-2T
-E-4/-2=T
E+4/2=T <--- this is my answer

i don't know if your're allowed to divide 2 by 4 so maybe it's how they get T=E+2

Is that an answer from the book?

20-E/4000=12-T/2000
Multiply both sides by (-2000)
E-20/2=T-12
T=E/2-20/2+12
T=E/2+2

20-E/4000 = 12 - T/2000
multiply both sides by 4000

80000 - E = 48000 - 2T
T = (32000 - E)/2

I think your equ is wrong

(20-E) / 4000 = (12 - T) / 2000 i think thats what umean

multiply both sides by 4000

20-E= 2(12-T)
20-E=24-2T
-E=4-2T
T = (4+E)/2

i dont get it either :P o well
