We are going to the thanks giving dinner of my boss. What would be an appropriate gift (etc...) to take along ? We are going to the first time to his house.

Flowers or a bottle of wine.

As plz_tell suggested, an item of food is the usual "gift" to bring, but it might help if you found out what the boss's tastes and/or likes are. If you bring something he or she doesn't like, or can't eat, it might not look good.

In a lot of movies and television programs, first-time, or even normally invited guests, bring a bottle of wine. But once again, find out the tastes and likes of your host and hostess.

Also, nothing too expensive, but not super-cheap either.

If he drinks a nice bottle of wine is always appropriate.

A nice potted plant with a holiday theme.

Cut flowers are always a bad idea for a dinner party...host has already decorated and purchased flowers if they desire them. They have to interrupt party to run and find a container, trim the flowers and arrange them.

Obviously, don't be too cheap but don't overspend either.

Probably the easiest thing would be to bring food if it is a small dinner party, but if it is more of a formal affair, then the first thing you should do is either check with him or his wife to see if there is anything particular that you could bring.

If they say no, then just bringing a small gift would be totally ok.

If he drinks, a nice bottle of wine to serve with dinner. If not, a nice fruit basket or flowers made into a centerpeice for the table. The fruit basket is probably the best bet.

This is a good one.... and since I JUST bought one of these for my boss.... I'm going to recommend it to you to. I went to the mall, where they sell the Hillshire Farms gift baskets of different cheeses and sausages and crackers. I spent $25.00, and got a big 'ol gift pack full of an assortment of meats, cheeses, jams, crackers, candies.... and I think my boss is really going to like it! GOOD LUCK!
