i'd like to travel to france in january. will airfares go down in the next few weeks or should i buy now?

Jan is high season for travel, prices will not go down until Mid Feb. What you can do is take one of those cheap airlines, or go for a non refundable ticket, whereby you buy a fixed date ticket, they are around 20% cheaper than the regular ones.

it depends how close to the holidays seasons you are traveling ?
anything around new year or school vacations ,will be higher ....
check now to see the difference and for after the holidays .....
at times you can find cheaper flights with different airlines .......
