Newsday is reporting today that Citigroup has won the rights to name the Mets' new ballpark, and it will be named CitiField. What do my fellow Mets fans think of the name? I think it's a good name, because it reflects New York and there was no way the Mets would retain the name "Shea" because of the revenue they gained from the Citigroup deal. I'd rather it be named CitiField than something ridiculous like Pepsi Park or Yahoo! Yard.

I tend to agree with you in that the money is a tough thing to turn down. CitiField works for me, but I think who ever decides these things needs to at least tip their hat to Mets history. I think naming a certain part of the stadium "Shea" would be nice compromise. Instead of having the "Diamond Club" like they have now, call that "Shea" to retain our history. Well, or something like that. Maybe rename the loge or mezzanine Shea even....

Not a Mets fan but could be far worse. Anyone else remember Enron Park, or whatever the stadium was refered to as but I remember Enron had the name, in Houston. Not that the new name of Minute Maid Park is much better.

Actually, I'm glad the Mets are getting a new stadium. New stadiums in baseball have all been great for the most part. And it's time for Shea to come down.
As long as there's no dome and no 300 foot left field walls, I like it.

I'm not a met fan, but you make perfect sense. no way the mets turn down that revenue to use their own name, like maybe doc gooden 8 ball park; marvelous marv throneberry field; or possibly cash thrown at mo vaughn park; besides shea rhymes with gay and any other name is fine as long as they lose that stupid apple
