Unfortunately, it's not what you know, but whom you know.
People with better social skills usually have an easier time gaining employment because they have more connections and also have an easier time interviewing for positions. It is also easier for them to make friends and pick up girls.
Not to boast, but I have always had an exceptionally high IQ (130s to 140s). I wouldn't hesitate to trade it in for social competence, however, because then I would probably be in a better position in life right now. Of course, the eight different types of intelligence aren't mutually exclusive, so if you have a high IQ coupled with excellent social skills, then you've pretty much got it made.

i think of all your intelligences as making up your IQ, not just the limited things measured on a IQ test,,,,,,,, as to whats more useful, i guess that would depend on your personality and what you find important,,,
and also it would depend on the situation you in at that point and time, or the type situations you find yourself in often,,,
social intelligence is a very broad area lol the ability to get along with others, interact, but also analyze others, to view the peoples of the world, know why people act the way they do,,,,,,, etc etc im not sure if you are including common sense in with it also,,

In a practical way yes...IQ has value, but if you are a genius but can't tie your shoe, you're not necessarily better off than someone with high 'social intelligence' and an average IQ...

I think so, however if someone has IQ you would think they would have social intelligence as well. This is not the case though....
Then again this is coming from a social stupid person lol!

From my own observations yes. I've seen people succeed on social skills only. But its not pretty. They are the people you see in high positions that everyone says "how did that idiot get that job". They are the one's that have the knack to rise above the level of their incompetence.

yes, certainly. no matter how intelligent u're, one has to have social skills in order to interact with people. otherwise, u'll be deemed as anti-social/loner. not only that, most skills require u to have social interaction with people too.

More useful for the average life, yes. Can't do a thing without it, no matter how gifted you are.
