Only one person has the right answer?!!! The decimal value is not .14, it is the repeating decimal .142857142857142857... This is a very interesting number -

142857*7 = 999999

14 = 2*7
28 = 2*14
57 = 2*28 + 1 (carry)

And, you multiply it by rotating the digits of the repeating block:
1/7 = 142857...
2/7 = 285714...
3/7 = 428571...
4/7 = 571428...
5/7 = 714285...
6/7 = 857142...
7/7 = 1

The reciprocal of any prime number p will repeat in the way that 7's reciprocal does ... with a cluster of at most (p-1) digits. The actual length of such a cluster will always be either (p-1) or a factor of (p-1).

See the link below for more fun info!

I believe I've also come up with an interesting (new?) theorem concerning the repeated digits ... when written as a whole number, it would always be divisible by 9!!

A seventh is equal to 14 Ninetyeighths, or 142 Nine-hundred-and-ninety-fourths, or...

It's just as easy to use a calculator for things like this, but if you need a paper method, try re-evaluating the fraction to get the denominator to as close to a power of 10 as you need.
