foreigners migrating to the U.S. for employment (e.g Filipino nurses)? I have read somewhere in the web that some organizations are against recruitment of foreign nurses and instead work on educating more Americans for Nursing. Why is this so? Although the Phil's may be a corrupt country, Filipinos are well-known for their tender, loving care and concern for others>> which makes them marketable globally.

@Crimson> there is truth to that but you cant help it if Americans dont opt to Nursing as a career bcoz of the sacrifices that comes with Nursing. Filipinos are all too willing to sacrifice for the sake of bringing back some dough to their families back home in order to survive. You cant help it if there's a shortage of nurses and its just an oppurtuninty grabbed by 3rd world countries.

@Me3TV>> Engl. is our language of instruction. (Koreans, etc. even obtain their degrees here in our country so they would also learn Enlish as a second language.)Tagalog is our native tongue.

Prejudices/ discrimination or whatever we call it are everywhere. This only happens when one is insecure of the other.

Back to your question: U.S. has every right to prioritize their people first before other nationalities. I wouldn't consider it prejudice.

The only reason why the US recruits foreign nurses is because the demand for health care is high and the number of nurses doesn't meet this demand (not enough Nurses in the US) so in order to get immediate relief they get Nurses from other countries. And now that more Americans are willing to go in the Nursing field, and if they are qualified then US has every right to employ them.

Filipinos are excellent workers in any given field, very patient , can communicate very well, can adjust to any circumstances, very intelligent. We are at par with the best people out there, if only given the chance but that's another story.

Iam a Filipino and I work in the US and I think we can stop/minimize this "prejudice" thing (in the workplace) if we maintain our work ethics and always do our best, this way our foreign employers will think positively when they hear the country , Philippines.

There is a shortage of nurses in the USA and schools are trying to address the issue by offering more nursing courses. Filipino nurses are just as capable and if the dollars draw them here - fine. There is a large Filipino/American population in America and they are widely accepted by all levels of American society. Very very few Filipinos arrive as illegal immigrants. English is the official language of the Phiilippines (I think) although Tugaleg(?) is the major native language. Thus, Filippinos who immigrate to the USA are easily adapted to the American culture - because they speak English. The LONG history of the US Navy with the P.I. and (earlier) with China provided a bond over many decades until the 1980's. But, still, there is, I think, a mutual appreciation of nations and cultures.

Don't let bigots get in the way of what you want to do. We had a lot of nurses come from your country years ago and they were fine nurses. We have a great shortage of nurses now even with the good pay they get, so come enjoy the harvest.
Good luck

I don't know if marketing your race here will get you hired, but I think that there are plenty of job opportunities for you in the states if you truly have the qualifications. Don't let some article on the net change your goals on anything. NOTE: You are marketing your race and I quote "Filipinos are well-known for their tender, loving care and concern for others>> which makes them marketable globally."

The quality of public debate has suffered specifically and directly as a result of the internet. The reason: It's too easy to "hit and run" here, just making some outrageous argument -- a one-liner, really, and nothing more-- of which you can't possibly sustain a logical defense.

I agree with the "not here" guy. You're wasting your time to ask this good and worthy question here.

well i wouldnt say ALL americans are against them, maybe some are against the idea of having maids, maybe they just think of it as a slightly less harsh and justified version of slavery, i dont know. but the fact that some companies dont allow foreign nurses is a little ridiculous to me, but not entirely unreasonable. i mean, i understand if a country would prefer to employ its own people than start getting others to do the work, but having them say no altogether is a little prejudice, i have to say..
Altogether i wouldnt say all americans are prejudice, there are definately some, there are prejudice pple in every country, but i dont think its something big enough to be a problem.

I think it is obvious? not to do with prejudice but survival. if foreigners take our jobs then how do we support our families? I think we need to take care of our own people first. there are people starving & homeless in the USA.
