Karl Marx was a social commentator really, what he termed 'communism' which is what we now call 'marxism' (they are both different) was about how the rich exploited the poor during the industrial revolution, he was predicting an uprising where the poor majority would rebel against the rich to end the exploitation.
Power to the people. Because the poor majority had none in that system.

Marxism is a method of analysing capitalism and other types of societies in terms of the balance of power of classes and can be used as a guide to political action in the real world. Marx was an advocate of socialism and the ultimate attainment of a society where economic classes ceased to exist and humanity as a whole, and humans as individuals, would be able to realise their full creative potential. Stalin, while nominally a Marxist, perverted Marx's and Lenin's ideas to justify his own tyrannical dictatorship. For a more interesting portrayal of a real Marxist thinker read about the life and work of Rosa Luxemburg. She predicted the rise of a Stalin type figure even before Lenin and Trotsky seized power in Russia.
