I signed of unemployment benefit to start a part time job at a store. The people there ridiculed me and laughed at me, and were unhelpful, always putting me down, they made me feel 2' tall, I started to hide my true nature, and it was mentally painful, and I started to be anxious and ill, and feel I was worthless, when I know Im not. I havent been brought up in a rough competitive culture, to know how to deal with it and even if I was I wouldnt take part in degrading people like this. Now I feel if I try to sign back on unemloyment benefit, I dont know if Ill be able to. If anyone can help Ill be grateful, thankyou

Don't know if it is so where you are, but most states have good agencies which will provide assistance in finding a job within your skills. If you need education there are assistance programs for that.
You will feel much more comfortable about how others view you if you gain some personal confidence. Go on line in your city and investigate what options are available.

I have no legal precedenct to site, but, here is what I think.

Did you report any of this abuse to a superior? Do you have any proof at all that it was happening ie: nasty note or someone willing to say it happened.

If so, and maybe you don't even need it, but it would help with a harassment suit. Talk to a lawyer who takes a cut of the settlement and it won't cost you anything to find out if your rights were violated. We have had sensitivity training up the wazoo where I used to work and you can't even say something that someonelse might accidentally overhear and feel bad about.

Also, I know a gentlemen that went out on stress and collected workmans comp - see a doctor and explain all the anxiety caused and when you re-sign up for unemployment - list the problems.

Sorry to hear about your experiences and I feel sad for the people who did this to you but your a strong person and you know you can find another job if you try. Don't use the benifits system as a fall back but use your head to sort the problem.
Why not go Self Employed and do something you are good at and build up your reputation. You will not beleive the satisfaction you get from being your own boss and calling the shots.
All it takes is a bit of bravery and thought.
You CAN do it !!

i think you have to wait for a period of six weeks, you should have just looked for another job. Also you should have reported your experiences in the old job to document the evidence of the harrasment. People deal with bad things every day of their lives but we still have to work to earn a living, you just have to grow a thicker skin because there will be bullies where ever you go. You can't just give up on life and let them win, you need to go on to better things and show them they didn't effect you. If you always get stuck in these type of dead end jobs I would take this chance to go back to college and get a qualification to help you get better work something you really want to do, it's not too late and once you do get back on benefit you will find most college courses are free for you so take the opportunity and show all the bullies your strong and make something better of yourself.

No. Think of it this way: like when the bank gets you to upgrade from a free account to one that charges a few pounds a month for a higher interest rate. They never let you go back to the free account. So it is with benefit. Once you have entered the world of work, and if you leave a job on your own initiative, then you can not receive any state support. You have to go back to work.

In answer to your question, if you had a job and you quit it then you cant sign on again for 6 months. Its only if you were sacked or if your doctor said you had to leave for medical reasons that you would be able to sign on again.
We've all had jobs we hated and you should have looked for another job before leaving instead of just assuming that the state would provide for you.

I think its if you get fired you can go back on benefits asap and if you resign then you have to wait about 6 - 10 weeks before you can sign on again

Sorry to tell you this, but the people at the unemployment agency are not that understanding. They will only give you unenmplyment if you were laid off. They won't give it to you if you quit, even if it was becasue of health reasons.
