After the kids cut open their pumpkin ( which was rotten inside) I ended up with 2 billion fruit flies in my kitchen (yuck). I put up a fly trap but to no avail. HELP!!

I just recently saw something on that on tv. They took a jar and covered it with plastic food wrap and punched some small holes in it with a toothpick. The flies could get in but couldn't get out. I don't remember what they put in the jar to attract them but maybe this note will trigger someone elses memory to help us out here. Good luck.

I'd like to second normy's answer. I've done that and it works extremely well and it's fun. If you put it out at night, when you wake up, all the fruit flies will be flying around in the jar. Put anything that attracts the flies in the jar for bait, like small pieces of fruit or tomatoes. Obviously the pumpkin would make good bait! The stronger the smell, the better.

Those are good ideas and I have found just a little ammonia in your sink drain helps a lot. They need a place to breed and they like your drain areas. It takes just a little. You can also but a some red wine in a glass which will kill them. Another thing is lemon dishwashing detergent on a white plate draws them for some reason and works.
That should drop you to 1 1/2 billion which will be killed with the combination of the other ideas!

We had that problem not too long ago. The first thing we did was try traps- which of course didn't work. We ended up just having to clean everything, and keep water and all food sources away from them. They tended to rest on white or light surfaces, so we used a bleach solution. It take a while, but eventually, we got rid of them.

normy had the right idea but i read recently that you can use a piece of banana to lure the fruit flies to the trap..

get some flies but read on Thar can fist and follower the directions black flag is a good brands

all insects hate smoke, when i have fruit flys or any other kind I burn incense where ever they hang out and that helps get rid of them
