I found some bugs in the soil so I was told to let the soil dry up, remove any leaves and they would die, well now my ficus is dead! The branches are very dry and snap right off, with no leaves. The bottom of the plant is still trying to grow. The leaves that are on the plant are very soft and rubbery. What can I do to save my plant?

I was told to remove the fallen leaves from the soil, not the plant.

My husband saved my poor ficus. He said it was in the wrong potting soil, so he transplanted it to a new pot with Miracle-Gro soil. He put a vitamin B-12 pill in the soil, and watered it immediately. He put it in an area with filtered sunlight, watered it about once a week, and above all, don't touch or move it! And my little ficus is now HUGE! So I guess it worked!

I think what you should have done was stop watering it FROM THE TOP. You can water them from the bottom by sitting the pot in a little dish (old pie pans work) of water and it'll get what it needs to stay alive, but the bugs in the top soil will die.
Enter 'ficus' or rubber plant into the search to find more professional suggestions on what you should do. Or flowers.com might help you out.

Water the plant until soaking wet, take it out of the old pot, repot the plant in a clean pot using new potting soil, and discard most of the old soil. Clip the dry leafless branches to encourage new growth. Good luck.

Try putting it in an area that is free of drafts and vibration, etc.
Let the soil dry, but keep it a little moist.

this is a weird theory but older generations in Asia use it..when you wash the fish that you buy, save the water from the cleaning and pour it at the root of your tree.. this will help to introduce protein for the plant.. other old wives tale is to use diluted urea..
