When I turn my computer off, the power light goes off as usual. But, a throbbing starts up, which doesn't go away at all, until I turn the computer back on. Also, the orange light (I think it is a 'hard disk indicator light'?) flashes continuously whilst the computer is off. Any ideas?

I have just relaised that as well as the sound coming from the processor , if I turn the speakers on whilst it is off, a similar noise comes from them.

A few days ago, the computer wouldn't turn on - I got it repaired - it was the power supply and modem.

Are you sure you turn it off? Maybe you put it in Stand by mode. If you are sure, it's like you have an old pc that doesn't support auto power-off, you should see the "you can turn safely the computer off now" screen, but there are cases in which you'll not see it. Try to keep pressed the power button for at least 5 seconds, if whirring disappear and lights turn off, you've got this problem, and you have to power off it manually every time (after exiting Win, of course!)

Repair shop. It's either the hard drive itself or the power supply.

It could well be the fan that is still cooling the residual heat after you've turned the machine off - it should die off eventually but if it literally stays on permanently then I'd get it checked out.

when do you turn off the main power after turning the tower off...?

There is a possibilty that your computers SMPS ( power supply ) is releaseing the power just to hard disc even when its switched off. Betta get it checked.

Nothing should be going if the computer's off. I'm no computer genius, but that's definitely a problem. I'd take it to a shop.

there is also a vague chance that you have left your speakers on, these will buzz after the pc is shut down. if you have in built speakers on your monitor, ensure your monitor is switched off along with the PC
