Some interesting answers so far. It's obvious that feelings toward Bush are either extremely pro or extremely con. I don't find that surprising considering who he replaced. The country was extreme in its feelings towards Clinton too.
Obviously, it will be years before historians can judge him objectively, but I personally believe that Bush will be listed among the very good presidents in history.
We are going through a very difficult time in our country's history. The consequences of mishandling our enemies are huge. I believe he's handled them fairly well. I also believe that those who disagree underestimate the hatred our enemies have for us. And those who blame that hatred on Bush simply don't know history. The attacks started decades ago.

Apocalypse says he's not blindly following, but he is following the media and others who like to portray Bush as a bad president. I am from another country and have recently become a US citizen and you people that bash Bush would be begging for him with just a few days under someone else's regime !!! Try going and living in Iraq or any other country in the same situation, then come back and let us know how wonderful it is there !!

Yeah, for just about a hundred years individuals have been rejecting state run wellbeing care, Obama have been given law surpassed that provides individuals a mandate to purchase a financial product (scientific wellbeing coverage) as a manner to be a citizen in solid status. and you applaud Obama for this? have you ever even tried to verify the form? Bush's excellent accomplishment has been to maintain people who have been for even greater government tha he grew to become into out of place of work at a similar time as he did his incremental harm to the country that Obama is making an attempt to end in one fell swoop

LOL. Right. In the sense of a Hitler or Stalin as the other poster noted.
And that goes for both of them. Like father, like son.
The great thing about them being leaders is that it shows us what NOT to do. Praise be to Allah/God that at least the Democrats can have a say from now on.
Pshaw.

Hmmmm...could it be the fact that he has alienated most of the free world to the point that travelers find that most foreigners HATE Americans?
Or maybe it's the Military Commissions Act of 2006, which effectively rescinds the 5th amendment to our constitution and allows the military to torture, kill or otherwise punish those they consider to be an "enemy of the state" (said term left undefined) without benefit of judge or jury?
Maybe it's his absolute refusal to change course in a war he started but refuses to acknowledge we are losing in a country that was not known for terrorists and had no connections to the 9/11 atrocity, but as a result of this war is now home base for most of the terrorists in the world?
Must be for catching Osama Bin Laden...but, wait, he's still out there somewhere...
Perhaps its the result of the War on Terror...or maybe it should be more correctly worded the war OF terror - since he has used Hitler's tried and true reasoning to make the people fear a certain segment or the world in order to claim that America is safer with him at the helm?
Just maybe it's his religion, the radical evangelical belief that the "rapture " is coming, and thus global warming and other environmental concerns are not worth bothering with since the day of kingdom come is at hand and there's no need to save our planet for our children and their children.
Perhaps his greatest accomplishment is increasing the national debt to previously unheard of levels by spending so much money on such failed endeavors as the war on drugs, homeland security and the failed war in Iraq.
He should be noted for reigning during the period of time when gas and oil prices hit the highest levels ever, and oil companies consistantly reported their highest profits ever.
A recent newspaper editorial made the point that people went to the polls, and every time they saw an "R" on the ballot they read it as George W. Bush and resoundingly said "NO."
Great leader?? George W? I agree, an oxymoron!!

He is NOT a good leader. He is someone who has power only because he was elected. True leadership comes apart and many times in addition to that. A leader inspires people to strive for their best, it doesn't manipulate people with the use of fear and empty mentions of religious fervor. Reverend Al Sharpton (though I don't think very much of him myself) is a great example of a leader. People rally around him, hold him in high regard, and count on him to fight for their benefit--all this without the benefit of deadly force backing him up. What we have is a manipulative bully who will say or do anything to keep his power. That, my friend, is very different from being a leader.

Bush has the guts to do the difficult tasks. We were attacked many times by Muslim terrorists. How many times have American leaders ignored that fact? Bush went after them destroyed their home base. Now there are pockets left causing problems. We have to destroy them too. Every one we kill in Iraq and Afghanistan is one who will never blow up a plane or mosque.Clinton ignored the threat and look what it got us. Wake up people its us or them. And i appreciate a leader who sees that. And SPICY should be loving Bush for what we are doing to make her country better. If her countrymen weren't born into war they would stop killing each other and the brave men and women trying to give them a better life.

Right or wrong I respect him for basically telling everybody to kiss his ***. The only other politician I have seen do that is James Trafficant, the democrat frm Ohio. I think he is in prison but he went down fighting. He said all politicians are crooks.

I think in the years to come, people will realize what a good president he was. He will definitely go down in the history books, and no, not for being the worst president ever. I could only imagine what would have happened to this country if Al Gore were in office on 9/11.. he would have tried to talk the terrorists to death !! I have always enjoyed my freedoms in the US and the feeling of being safe within our borders. Bush is trying to make sure it stays that way. For all the Liberals out there, what did Clinton accomplish other than getting his cigar "smoked" while he was in office?? Many say the war in Iraq is for oil... well maybe that is a part of why we are over there, but unless you intend to ride a bike to work, then get over it. It always seems the people with the biggest mouths are the people always willing to jump on a bandwagon. You don't want drilling in Alaska, but you don't want to be at war over oil. People seem to forget what a great nation we live in and all they do is whine about the president. When hurricane Katrina hit, that was Bush's fault too !! I remind you all that this nation is set up so that not one person has ultimate power, things must go through channels first. He is NOT responsible for all things wrong in the United States today. As a matter of fact 9/11 was PLANNED while CLINTON was in office. So put that in your peace loving pipes and smoke it !!! Go ahead and give me thumbs down because I have my own opinion. You have yours and I have mine, difference is I recognize it and go on, you DISLIKE me and my opinion and will mull over it and whine about it for hours to come.

His response to Katrina
Cheney's energy task force
Haliburton's no-bid contracts
Turning a huge surplus into a huge deficit
Illegal wiretapping
Treatment of prisoners
Manipulation of intelligence to bolster support for war
Mismanagement of his war
Turning even more countries against us
Oh, you wanted reasons why he IS a great leader? Sorry, there aren't any, though I could give lots more reasons why he is NOT!
