No, it will not cause allergies. You do, however, need to start training the dog for when baby comes home. There are many books on this subject.

No. It does the opposite. It builds up an immunity to allergies in the baby. Never isolate the dog from the baby as it can lead to jealousy in the dog. Obviously never leave the baby alone with the dog. Let the dog smell and lick the baby as well. Start training your dog now for when the baby comes home. Put your hands in the food dish. Take bones and toys out of the dogs mouth. Do things to the dog that you think a baby will do.

Nope.... Never leave the baby and the pet unattended together as the pet may get spooked or curious and unintentionally harm the baby...
Whem our now 9 yr old daughter was first born we had a 1/2 golden retriever 1/2 golden lab (a very big dog) when we brought her home from the hospital we introduced her to the dog let him smell her to get used to her scent... About a half hour after we got home she started fussing, the dog got very upset and literally grabbed my husband by the pants and dragged him to the bassinet...
Up until the dogs death he and our daughter were inseperable.... He would keep her in the yard, watch over her, sleep first under her crib then under her bed... (sometimes in the bed although she still thinks we didnt know she let him up after we left the room)... I have pictures of the dog carrying her by the back of her overalls at age 2... He would often grab her by the back of her clothes and carry her away from things he didnt want her near as if she were a wayward puppy... She used to put barrettes in his fur often pulling as he dutifully sat there never flinching, never getting irritated... When he had, had enough he would jump the child safety gate and hide out for a while on the floor of the house she wasn't in... She used to feed him her vegetables under the table when she thought we weren't looking (He was always a willing accompolice)... When she got too rough he would gently take her hand and just hold it no biting no snipping just hold it as if to say "Enough"...
Never had any trouble with allergies etc..
As long as you are careful not to leave the baby and the dog alone until both are very well aquainted with the other... There should be no problems..

I don't think so !!! Allergy....Yes some infants may have allergy, but then it would be too difficult to pin point the source of it, though pets can be some times responsible for it ! Other wise there is no reason why should you keep your pet away , if he/she hs been covered with all the recommended Vaccines.
Infact , it becomes necessary on your part to introduce your new arrival to your already existing old pet, gradually to make him understand that he is also the member of the Family and the baby is his would be Master !!! You can refer many books avilable on Dog Traing for that matter !!
Personally, I had a female GSD with me when we had our son, they used to have unbelievably excellent rapport with each other,
thats too affectionate to explain !!
I am a Vet by Profession having about 10 years of Experience with Dogs !! All the best !

It has been proven that raising children and pets together cuts back on the allergies. We have 4 children, 1 on the way, and countless pets and have never had a problem with any of them. Just make sure that the dog is ready for the baby. Make sure it is trained well. And never leave children (no matter what age) and dogs together unsupervised.

absolutely DO NOT isloate dog from baby. Allergies are unlikely unless child is premature or prominent family history. Dog is already going to feel a little jealous so removing it only adds to the problem. Start training your dog BEFORE baby gets home. Once home allow dog to sniff items of baby's clothing etc to get the scent. Always supervise, never leave alone together but dont freak out if dog wants to sniff baby, this is how dogs introduce themselves. Offer attention to dog and praise when it acts appropriately and try to give it some attention when baby is asleep. Please seek proper advice from the many books and online help available or invest in a trainer if you are really unsure.

If this is a pet dog; I'm thinking the dog is a member of the family, so do don't kick a family member out to bring another in. Just be cautious to make sure the dog will not harm or be jealous of the new born. If that should happen, then deal with it.

It depends on how big the dog is and how rough the dog is.If it is a small dog and not to rough sure why not,if the bog is big but sweet as ever just watch the dog, As for allergies you never know until you try.

Unfortunately, that is something that you will have to try out by trial and error. Personally, when we brought our son home from the hospital, we had two dogs and three cats and our son did not have any allergies to any of our pets.
