I bought a PC at the beginning of the year. It was advertised as being 3.06ghz. I noticed in the system properties that it is only running at 1.61ghz (checked with other program). There are no jumper switches on the motherboard for altering bus speed, and no settings within the BIOS for changing multipliers. I have taken off the heatsink to check it is actually a 3.06 (it is stamped on the top of the CPU). I think it is too late to send the computer back now. So what would i need to get to make it run a full speed? New motherboard? Is the chip even capable of running at that speed?? Any help much appreciated.

No, it's not too late to send it back. Make your complaints.

The motherboard is the main control device. If you added slower RAM, it would cause everything to slow down to match that speed.

Investigate the proper RAM for your machine. Visit http://www.coastmemory.com and look up your computer or motherboard and model. Or check the manufacturer's website.

Good luck

it's not the multiplyer it's the fsb. Change that from bios. put it to 200 mhz. i think it's at 133 at the moment. if u allready did that try to reset ur bios from the reset jumper it might have some crazy oc options in there which downcloaks ur cpu. did it ever runed at 3.06 ghz showned in windows? what ram ur using and what mainboard
