maybe you need to check for new hardware. I don't know what system your running but in mine (windows ME) i go to start> settings> control panel> add new hardware> and see if it detects the speakers and then it will most likely install them.
if that doesn't work, if you kept the cd for the speakers (assuming you had one) try to put that in to reinstall them.
other than that, I really wouldn't know what to do, maybe call a local computer repair shop and ask them for suggestions? your sound drivers may be shot.

based on what you asked is it safe to assume you didnt do a virus scan and clean it from there?
that would be the first priority otherwise its still there.
as for the sound? perhaps the driver or file got corrupted and needs fixing maybe reinstalled

Your sound drivers aren't installed. Download the latest drivers for your sound card. You can verify this by going into device manager and looking for the question marks.

so in other words instead of removing the virus you've imbedded it and lost your sound drivers in the process you probably have a drivers disc find it and reinstall the sound drivers

i think the virus is still there and if not,your sound driver might be the one infected and had been removed.try to reinstall your sound card driver.
