White's Donuts in Westfield make Long's look like dung filled heaps of flour. :D

However, I can't believe that they don't take debit cards because of the cost involved. I own a small business and the fee is not that large per transaction or per month as long as I have $50 worth of charges roll through.

I don't know specifically why they don't, but I do know that a lot of small businesses don't because of the costs involved. Businesses have to pay the bank a fee every time a customer uses a credit or debit card. For larger companies, the cost benefit analysis works - but for really small neighborhood stores it sometimes isn't possible. Of course, a lot of places eventually add that option but there will always be some who just don't think they can.

Unless banks are offering free services, why give a percentage of your earnings to them which you might not even get back on the bank deposit interest rates.

When their operations get large enough, it will then make sense to reduce propensity of employee theft, save staff time and reduce customer waiting time.

Probably because of the merchant fees. What did they say was the reason why?
