I'm not talking about a revolution in the true sense but more along the lines of a cultural revolution as was experienced in the 1960's.
There now seems to be an enevitability that Scotland will break with the act of union causing independance and there will be some form of a united Ireland in the near future?
English/Scottish nationalism is at an all time high and the union jack/flag seems to have been replaced by St Georges/Scottish saltire Flags.
Also, there will be a 'crossover generation' of young professional educated people who for the first time will not be able to afford property and make wealth like their parents/grandparents generation. It also seems certain that this generation will not recieve a state pension or even medical care in the future as we now unlike previous generations are expected to pay for it ourselves.
So are we heading for some kind of soft revolution in the UK. If we do what form will it take and when will it happen. Any thoughts?

Good point crazy D......I think there would have been some type of revolution if Thatcher had not defeated the miners during their strike.

Good question...I think the Union will break down in the next couple of decades but we will all be drawn in tighter to the EU..probably a good thing, on balance. London will become less of an important financial / business hub & we may experience a degree of 'brain drain' as many talented people move to the continent & these islands come to realise they are at the periphery of Europe. Hard times to come..?

You are right in some of the predictions you offer up. But think Global...
Under Bush and Blair the US and Britain have spent money they don't have. The cost of living and housing has sky-rocketed and will go over the edge very soon. We are living well beyond the means and someone will have to pay. The US is borrowing 3 billion a day from China to pay for the war etc. Many companies (tied to Blair and Bush)are getting rich.
Property value's may be overstated and a re-align will be leaving many homeowners with property that is not worth what they owe on it. Immigration issue's become apparent as millions flock to escape poverty.
"Too many people" is the key issue. World governments already realise that there are too many people for the current technology and not enough planet. Desensitising of the public has already begun with announcements of the Bird Flu etc that can wipe us out. Vaccines are being made for certain numbers of the population. Re-align the population to the technology evolved. Less cars, smog, pollution, energy etc.
Just think if a bird flu took out 2/3 of the world! There would be a house for everyone left. A car for everyone left. And everyone left will be physically fit to resist the virus. No smog or traffic. Problem solved..........
Watch out for the future.........................!!!!!

well william wallace a rebel and a nobelman the way i look at his biography helped lead the scottish people from englands rule. the battles were so intense that many died from so many terrible injuries.he led a revolution against longshanks and won but was beheaded beforehe saw what he had accomplished.i remember in the 70s and early 80s when the IRA irish republican army banned together for similar reasons that wallace did.the attacks of the IRA made england wake up and the parliment had to do something before anything esle happened.the IRA hasnt been heard from or any news about their where abouts or activities in many years so i think they must be a much smaller group and have taken to talking about their needs and wants instead of fighting about it.you mentioned a soft revolution?well it will be so very soft you wont know very much about it.England is a great country and a very good friend of the United States as well as the best allies. Britain has always been there to aid the US and vica versa.in reality a revolution isnt always the best idea but talking to anyone that is close to the Queen is best. Pm Tony Blair is one of Englands best assets and i know many will disagree but he has been raked over the coals many times and has stayed the course much like the president of the US. i see the best and most reasonable way to achieve anything is to toss the weapons in the water and sit down and talk reasonably and without provocation.always keep talking that way there is always that moment you will have time to think before you act.if bagdad had kept the conversation going then the bombing wouldnt have started

The UK has been ever evolving and so the notion of heading for change is an ever present feature of life.. along with change there is always a level of continuity..
Some believe that one consequence of globalisation is that change is now on a bigger and more rapid scale than in the past which perhaps explains current anxiety about the phenomenon..
I must say I disagree that nation-states within the UK will eventually become independent. To a large extent I think devolution has quashed that desire..at least in so far as making independence become a reality..
Furthermore like all nation states, globalisation will mean that UK borders/national identity and the like will become ever more irrelevant.. with many other factors dictating for example cultural or economic trends..

Scotland, yes I can see that happening united Ireland in a few decades that would be desirable but not as easy to see on the same timescale. I think the acceleration of evolution of our society began duing the second world war with women taking up the employments of those men in the forces and bringing up children without a man in the home. Britain might have been ripe for a revolution between the wars but it would have been put down without mercy; our ruling elite did not create one of the worlds most effective empires without learning a trick or two. It is a process of evolution rather than 'skipping to the next chapter'

I agree that the break up of the UK into a devolved/independent Scotland & Wales is a possibility. I'm sure Scotland would have a better attitude to Europ compared to the present government.
What surprises me at the moment is the depth of feelings expressed against immigration in general and Muslim proclivities.
There are so many variable that it is difficult to make any predictions.

Population is the elephant in the room. Most of the problems stressing the environment and the economy would be resolved with fewer people in the world. We need a zero population growth policy, and immigration to be tied only to labour demand, not to grow the overall UK population (ie: replace the old when they die off). This will be the big change in the UK.

I hope so, but I can't see it happening. If it did, us English would be far better off economically because Scotland,Wales & Northen Ireland have more benefits per head out off the Tax system than us English,

I don't know about what a soft cultural revolution, but what I do know is that this country is going downhill, fast- mainly due to political correctness. People are so afraid of offending people that they effectively lose their free speech. This needs to change.

i think you're right but it is likely to be slowly and its already happening. i think its adding to the current i dont care / low responsibility attitude because the world and society has changed and the younger generation are missing out in some ways whilst the politicians are benefiting from their positions of power and wont be affected by the results of their actions
