i used to have cars. does this mean 5 cars at the same time or different time

Use to have means, does not have any more. It doesn't say how many or if they were at the same time or different times. Need more information to really answer this.

it can mean either one. you would have to specify when saying it. if you told me "i used to have 5 cars" to me would sound like you had them all at once. if you want to say you had 5 cars at different times saying "i have had 5 cars" sounds more specific
