A small repair shop I use for all my repairs tried to replace my heater core on my 1995 Ford F-150 pickup truck, the cable controlling heater door needs a special tool D91T-18532-A and we can not find or ford dealers will not sale us tool. Need way around this or way of getting tool. It releases the cable so the core can be removed and replaced.

I always use a couple of small screwdrivers, and/or a cotter pin hook.

Here is a link with a picture of the tool as well as instructions.

Why are you dealing with a junkyard in the first place? You can get a copper heater core from one of the discount auto parts stores for about the same price and it has a warranty (as the aluminum ones for Ford have a habit of leaking if you didn't maintain the cooling system really good) They are asking if it's a regular cab (2 doors), super cab (2 doors and 2 windows right behind the regular doors giving more room) and the trim level (usually rubber floor mats and crank windows for a xl and power windows and carpet on a xlt (which is probably what you have) I mean I checked out the autozone and got a price of $20 with a lifetime warranty.. you can't get a core out of the junkyard for that... (Ford is higher about $75 if I remember) But basically all the heater cores are the same for the 1992-1996 model year trucks, but basically the guy at the junkyard was like anywhere else and needs the information for his computer

I have replaced about 50 of these heater cores, and have never used the tool. There are just 7 bolts that you need to remove, you can use either a 5/16th or 8mm socket, a couple of extensions, a swivel and ratchet. I can usually get them done in 20-30 minutes from start to finish.

Go to your ford dealer and ask them to just show you the tool. Its probably a simple tool that the garage can make. They may even have an equivalent tool.
Go to www.nhtsa.com and check for a recall .
Do a internet search for the tool number. I did that and a instruction procedure for the heater core removal came up.

I would check with the Snap-On dealer. They supply tools to repair shops. Some others are MAC tools, and Matco.
I own a group called http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/Do_It_Yourself_Help/
we have other mechanics in this group that answers everyones questions. There may be someone that knows how to do it without the tool. I can send step by step process on this repair also.
