Get yourself a copy of the writers and artists handbook (they publish a new one every year), and find relevant agents. No point sending it to a non-fiction or crime writer specialist if you've written a historical novel.

It'll be hard work, but don't be disheartened! Many of the best writers were turned down many times before being picked up for publication, and most importantly of all, keep writing! If they do publish the first novel, they'll want another one to follow up with asap!
