They have said they will eliminate the tax breaks for "Big Oil". Do they think the oil companies will just eat the added expense? They will pass it on to the consumer. And Jim Oberstar (D-MN) will head the transportation committee, and he has said he will raise gas taxes to pay for projects. And I thought the Democrats were all about not raising taxes for the middle class?

Did you notice how the tax breaks lowered prices? Did you notice how after recording record profits the Republicans gave corporate welfare to the oil companies? Did you notice how that helped? nothing helped other than getting close to election time and then they lowered prices to help keep those who were so thoughtful with our tax dollars in office. Didnt work though did it? I hope if the oil companies continue to manipulate prices the new congress conducts an investigation and looks in to the situation ..Thank God for Democrats!

the value of gasoline is effected frequently by ability of the value of crude oil on the industry. Neither the Democratic Congress, nor President Bush incredibly has all that lots administration over the value of gasoline.

One person in Congress cannot raise taxes. Even if both Houses pass a tax increase, it can be vetoed by the President. Because the Democrat majorities are so slim, Congress will not be able to override a veto.
Democrats always want to raise taxes. If they had their way, they would become Socialist/Communist lite, and take all of your money in the form of taxes. They favor government control of everything in the US.

They just want to re-enact the windfall profits tax
This will end the price gouging
If they feel they must gouge the public, it will finance payoff of the national debt!

Democrats think by raising all prices and getting their hands deeper into the economy they are helping, but it in turn simply raises inflation and destroys the economy (Jimmy Carter come to mind?)

You have to understand that Clinton did this same thing when he was in office...and in the long run, it paid off, did it not? Yes...and I think that there are laws that place a cap on the price of gas...Bush changed it may times to make the cap HIGHER...yes, Higher...i expect the dems will attempt to lower the "cap", of course with Bush (someone who supports 'Big Oil' will veto it) We cannot make assumptions too early and it is foolish and inmatture to do so...thank you very much...
