Postal orders are the best way if you want the money asap. Cheques are ok if you want the money to go into your bank account and don't mind waiting a few days. I know what you mean when it's comes to paypal especially when selling something on ebay. You get charged by ebay for listing the item then you get charged again by ebay at the end of the month and then paypal charge you for using their services and then they charge you again if you transfer funds into a bank account. You don't seem to really gain anything using ebay or paypal.

Postal Orders are the best bet. Just take them the post office and they will cash them for you.

As a seller, I ONLY accept paypal and postal orders - cheques take too long in my opinion. Paypal is best, even though they take a small fee, if anything does go wrong you are protected and if you need to issue a refund (it does happen from time to time) it's just dealt with using a couple of mouse clicks.

As a buyer, I try to only use paypal, but a few sellers do not accept paypal, so I paid by postal order a couple of times and once by nochex (I held my breath until the item arrived). I would prefer to just pay by paypal because if anything does go wrong, such as item not arriving or being damaged etc, you can claim your money back from paypal - yes it does take about 7-10 days to get your money back, but at least you DO get it back - pay by postal order, cheque, bank transfer etc and you have no guarantee to get your money back.

For the same reasons, most people want to pay by paypal, and sellers will lose out on many potential customers if they do not accept paypal.

A postal order can be cashed in the post office or put into your bank, the same way as a cheque. There is a commision charge on the postal order (about 7%) that the person buying the postal order has to pay, so it can put buyers off because it seems like a 'hidden charge'.

Only other way is cheque or postal order, with a postal order you just take it to the post office and they will cash it. I ONLY deal with sellers that take paypal, and a lot of other people do the same. I buy from several countries, and using paypal makes it so much easier.

Cheques are the easiest, because you can wait until they clear before you do anything else, and also if there is a dispute later you'll be able to show if the money ever turned up or if the cheque bounced.

Postal orders are issued by the post office, and work in much the same way as cheques, but generally used for people without a cheque book.

Paypal does charge, but they provide some protection against fraud.

I have had cheques bounce and you wait ages for stuff to come through post. If you don't like the Paypal fee you can include in your listing that you charge extra (say 4%) if people pay by paypal. You may lose some potential buyers this way but that is what some people do.

I use paypal as its quick and easy, although yes they charge.
Postal Orders are really easy, your buyer sends it to you and you can cash it right away over the counter at the Post Office. They are very difficult to counterfeit so its like recieving cash, but safer.
If you want to buy something using a PO, you just ask at the Post Office again and they will sell you one, it costs a bit more than the actual amount on the Order though.

you are wrong. when you flog something on e bay they take their slice. even if the buyer pays cash, ebay will still bill you for services and their percentage.

and theres no way around it. you use their site, they charge, and its only 3%

it has its advantages and disadvantages, but paypal is secure, and in lots of transactions ive never been ripped or scammed. and its instant, cheques and P/o take forever. if johnny doesnt do paypal i pay cash sent by registered (signed for) mail... it doesnt get much quicker.

ebay is a service, you put something on, you pay for the advert, it sells, you pay them a percentage. and really its bloody good value for your money, where else can you reach a global audience for 20p...

If you sell anything on ebay they charge you a small percentage of the total selling price (excluding the postal charges) this funds their site. and the charges are very fair, if you go into seller on ebay it will tell you the charges they make. hope this helps

postal orders are post office cheques that you pay for up front, but they don't have to clear like a cheque.

I as quickly as observed a potato that supposedly gave the effect of Winston Churchill up for public sale. in my opinion, i did not see the resemblence, however the blasted factor truthfully offered for something like $25.00. No accounting for the intelligence of the shoppers.
