To be successful you have to REALLY want to stop, not just pay lip service to an intention of giving up. Just don't think about them. Throw everything away connected with smoking, eg., lighter, ash trays, etc., just as though they've never been part of your life. If someone offers a cigarette say, 'No thanks I don't smoke'. If you only smoked at certain times, eg., coffee breaks, after dinner, etc., then do something else, like read a magazine, complete a crossword - anything that will stop you from thinking of the ciggies. If it was an after lunch/dinner cigarette, get up and do something after you've finished eating, rather than just sitting down. Drinking alcohol will sometimes plant the idea of a cigarette - either don't drink for a few months, or practise mind over matter - think about something else. Just make sure you don't compensate by eating snacks; it's better to chew gum for a few minutes, until the thought has passed. You know you can do it if you REALLY want to - don't be a victim!

I stopped after years of 60 a day. I got patches for about 3 months I think. You start with a big patch and gradually use a smaller one as directed. I got mine on prescription which was a bit cheaper and certainly cheaper than smoking. I've been a non-smoker for nearly 12 years now and don't ever want to smoke again. However, if I were to have one I know I would be hooked so I wont even try. Good luck

A number of people say that the book by Allen Carr is what helped them. Nicotine gum and patches also increasing success rates. But nothing replaces willpower -- you have to want to stop. Other tips: if you feel like a smoke, drink water and/or do something else (like go for a walk) instead. Exercising and eating healthy food will help clear your body of tobacco smoke toxins. Avoid going to places where people smoke.

I stopped smoking on November 21 2005 i feel great and i have more money i used to smoke 40 a day this is how i did it
1) pick the day that you are giving up
2)start the rest of your life
i used Nicolette patches and my life saver the Nicolette inhalator. the inhalator is just a lifesaver it is a plastic mouthpiece like a small pipe you get a pack of nicotine cartridges that you snap into the mouthpiece then you suck on the pipe. When you stop smoking your body misses the nicotine that you have been absorbing from the fags and the nasty feelings that you feel when you want to smoke is a craving this means that you are dependant on nicotine you will also miss the hand to mouth movement of smoking a ***.when you draw air through ith inhalator nicotine is carried into the mouthand passes into your body and relieves the craving this is a great help.
i hope that this helps you if i can do it then so can you i will give you the phone number of the Nicolette quitter,s support line give them a call and thy will be able to give you the name of a local pharmacy to get you started on the 6week give up plane PLUS you will not have to pay for your treatment i wish you good luck with giving up if you get stuch or need any help you can email me on www.elkins-debbie@yahoo.co.uk 0800244838 quitter support

Make up your mind that you are going to quit and stick to it.Try to stay away from people who smoke as much as you can. The first three days are the hardest. Find things to do to keep yourself occupied. Don't make the mistake of thinking you can smoke just one cigarette after you have quit or you will start burning them the same way you were before you quit. After you quit, you must stay quit. All of this I learned from personal experience. It takes quite a while to forget cigarettes completely.

will power....
you are already half way when you decide to do something the rest of the easy but tricky part which is practical.
chew on herbs and gums.
whenver you feel like smoking, think about all the horrible things it does to your body and put a dollar in a jar... when you have enough money collected in the jar donate it to a charity.
just put a dollar in a jar everytime you feel like smoking.

I haven't smoked for 26 years. I just stopped cold turkey after my doctor said I had the beginning signs of emphysema. My wife used the patch, and, while it was expensive at the time, she was able to stop. NOTHING else worked for her including hypnosis. DO IT!! You can!! Good luck!!
