runs accross all africa... it has two tributaries.. white and blue nile...the white NILE flows all accross Tanzania, Lake Victoria, Uganda and southern Sudan, while the Blue Nile starts at Lake Tana in Ethiopia, flowing into Sudan from the southeast. The two rivers meet near the Sudanese capital Khartoum.
Most other parts it flow accross are Egypt.. whose civilazation has depended on Nile

I believe all the Great rivers can be referred to as 'the xxxxx river' OR just ' the xxxxx' without the need to say river simply because of how famous they are. Even a later grade elementary school student knows the mississippi is a river maybe middle school for the nile or the amazon, but I would like to believe that if you said 'Nile, Mississippi, Amazon' to 1000 adults, 990 of them would know they are rivers. as for calling it 'the river nile' that's just how it was done years ago
