The most diplomatic way to tell them the bad news?

FACE TO FACE: PRIVATELY, if it is an individual employee, perhaps in a staff meeting Only if you are terminating the entire staff.

The pink slip, the telephone message, the text message, the email - are not good diplomatic ways to terminate the employee.

If the termination is on good terms, you might consider offering a parting gift. If the termination is not on good terms you might offer some suggestions -to what skills/abilities you see in the employees and suggestion/guidance to what field of employment they should seek.

I know of one small employer who does not terminate anyone without first finding (or assisting) other employment for them. That would be a great gesture; and really works out well for you and the employee - this particular employer has NO disgruntled employees and NO disgruntled ex-employees.

ALWAYS MAKE SURE YOU'RE IN PRIVATE THEN SIT THEM DOWN AND CALMLY EXPLAIN WHAT IS GOING ON. IF IT'S A PROBLEM WITH THEIR WORK EXPLAIN WHY THAT IS A PROBLEM, DEPENDING ON THE SITUATION, AND THAT IT CAN'T BE FIXED. IF IT'S TIME FOR A LAYOFF THEN GIVE THEM THE REASON THEY'RE THE ONE WHO IS DONE, ETC. JUST BE HONEST, CONSIDERATE AND GIVE A STRAIGHT FORWARD, RESPECTABLE EXPLANATION. NO MATTER WHAT SOME PEOPLE WILL TAKE IT THE WRONG WAY. ALL YOU CAN DO IS TRY TO KEEP THEIR DIGNITY IN TACT AS BEST YOU CAN. IT WILL HELP THEM DEAL AND YOU WILL FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF. THERE MAY COME A TIME WHEN YOU NEED THEM BACK SO DOING IT THAT WAY WILL BE GOOD FOR YOU IN THE END. YOU COULD DO A LITTLE PRACTICING OR MAKE NOTES TO REHEARSE WITH FIRST SO YOU DON'T STUMBLE. HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE....

Tell them that it is time for them to enjoy family harmony for old employees and for the young one tell them that they can take a long holiday.

Diplomacy and firing do not go hand in hand. Be honest as to why they are no longer needed. Do not show emotion, this only upsets someone more.

study from ur errors. next time while ur team 'flirt u' courteously tell them their strikes make u uncomfotable. in the event that they proceed, report them to HR. do not call absolutely everyone vulgar names - u r being merely as undesirable as them that way

Do it with a song, make it up-beat and zippy. Then finish with a conga line so they can dance out the door.
