I live in Greece, in June we are going to have a Pan-Hellenic competition for admission to universities in Greece only and everyone studies their special subjects including me. But my dream is not to study in a Greek University, i want to go to the United Kingtom or in the USA to study as a lawyer or as a musik teacher. I want so much to do that and i have already made applications to the universities which i am interested in but i need to learn English because my spelling is so stupid and i don't have time to learn all the things that are needed. Please tell me, what can i do? Should i stop studying my special subjects and focus in the school subjects, English and piano which i study for four hours every day. I feel horrible and a very very deep sorrow.

The easiest way to learn English is to be immersed in it - be around just English-speaking people.

As I read your welll-written question, it appeared to me that you are ready to go to an American university. It will be a little more difficult for you because you will be improving your English as you study other courses but I am confident that you can do it. It's obvious that you have good study habits.

I feel that you are thoroughly confused. English is not a bug bear. Do you study in Greek? If so you are already studying in one of the parent language of English and cross over the English would not involve much change of tracks and the resultant noise. In Britainspecial English classes are held by the schools for the benefit of foreign student which would also help perfect your English. There are nowasdya so much external help avalable to study English you wil never lack any facility. First remove this begbearing attitude toward English. Go on and talk in it.Nobody is going to hang you for committing a grammatical mistake; they will only correct you.You are the only one who misspell words. Most of the questions on Yahoo answers are also misspelt. And for God's sake remove this misconcetion that if you want to study English you have to leave all othe subject. If you do you may be able to speak good English but would be an uncouth.

dear friend,

worrying is not going to help you... first sort out wht your going to prepare for first if it is going to be the competition then prepare for it..if not then forget about the greece university and prepare sincerely for the US university..before this get your self and find out what you really want to be either a lawyer or a music teacher..no two things can happen at once. finally search which is the best state for your career UK /US spellings can be easily made up to by either reading good books or sites which provide with spell check process online.. else learn to pick up new words or words which see on bill boards when you go out and try to write them down when you come back home..in that way you would have learnt a lot of words..spend sincerely an hour a day only for reading newspaper in english say a paragraph a day which will enhance your reading skills and spelling skills

cheer up and be happy..

god is with you and he will hear your prayers

good luck for all your endeavours

there are so many options for you. you never know whether a good or bad thing can happen if you do this or that. only after you've made your OWN decision will you see their effects. whatever choice you make, it's really up to you. it's better if you say what you feel to the people most concerned---YOUR PARENTS. of course they'll understand you, more so if you say what you truly feel in a nice way. by the way, for me, being able to play the piano is SUPER COOL! i can't even play the piano decently! heck, it's so great, i even admire people like Beethhoven. anyways, we live in two far corners of the world, I'm from Asia. but no matter how far i am from you, i surely know that whatever you want to do, it should be that which will make you happy. if you want to go to UK, why not? it's so possible. all i'm saying is that also think of the people close to you. i'm only 19 years old and i'm taking up architecture. it's what i really wanted even before i was in highschool. even if my parents were not so happy about me choosing it, i did it anyway. don't feel sad, if there is a will, there is a way. :) i know what you feel about being torn into two options. ask for guidance from God (well, i'm catholic and i hope i don't offend you in any way if you are not)/ i always pray for guidance. it works all the time. :) and in the end, things turn out okay, and i'm happy. :) LIsten to your heart.

Hmm.. I only can encourage and advice you here.. the rest is up to you... Well.. If you have a dream you should try your best to go after it. The best thing in life is to be able to do what you want to do in life and for you is music or law. I love music too. Law? My sis did that. Don't feel so bad.. Go for your dreams. In the end you will see that you have made the choice that make you enjoy your work life in future. And never say you're stupid, we all gain knowledge at different pace. Remember, you're smart because you did come and ask advice from everybody. Cheer up ok? =)

The United States of America
is built on the dreams of people just like you
and-- if it is your desire to come here and do your studies
get yourself to whatever it is you have to do and get it done !!!
It will not be easy-- nothing that is worth the hard work seldom is
but you can do this if you try--- there are a number of Greek families that I know of here in my community in North Texas-- they are hard working and mostly very successful in several businesses here--- they have been a tremendous asset to our city and I'm sure you will be a great addition to the university that is lucky enough to have you attend here---- Good Luck and Come on over !!!!

You could apply to a greek University that is part of the Erasmus program. This allows students after their first year to study in other Universities in the EU. See link for details.
