The dyes in the clothes could end up on you. Manufactures use fabric finishers to keep the fabrics from getting to wrinkled and mildewed in shipping. You don't know what critters have been in the boxes while sitting in the warehouse while gathering dust. And the dyes and finishers can irritate the skin unless washed to remove the irritants.

The colors can rub off on your skin or other clothing. For example if you did not wash you red shorts before wearing them, your underwear might become pink or red. It would be permantly stained from the transfer of the clothing dyes. Therefore it is best to wash new clothing items with like colors or separetely before wear to prevent ruining your other clothing.

you mean you dont smell that stinking new smell?i wash my underwear before wearing.there are many colored items that do need to be washed because they could fade and the color bleed onto your skin.new jeans like levis will unlss they are the type that the material has been washed several times to get that worn look.anyway there are lots of things that might be in new clothes and i wouldnt wear them until they have been washed at least one time.when we purchase clothes from another country,we need to examine the material and check all the pockets. you never know what may be in them. just to be safe since we have had terrorist activity.

I had a friend who worked in a garment facory, I went to see her one time there and some of the people there had infected hands or colds coughing , so not only is it the dyes but it is also for your protection as well as when they are hanging in the stores they are being touched by people with colds ect.

Nothing, usually. It does have to do with the dye thing and also because sometimes the chemicals that they use on the fabric can irritate the skin.

usually it just means there may be excess dye in the fabric. especially with dark clothing like jeans, you end up with the colour on you. it washes off. if you sit on light coloured furniture, eg seats, the colour can be transferred to that.
