Because you are believing the wrong reports. In the USA, virginal marriage is at it's highest level in 50 years, according to the Department of Health and Human Resources, National Institutes of Health, and the Centers for Disease Control.

There used to be moral restraint. Even though hanky panky has always occurred, the moral restraint within the society caused the instances to go underground and be hidden. Getting caught being immoral within that moral restrained society, was something to be avoided at all costs. A young high school girl getting pregnant was so disgraceful, the family had to pack up and move to some place no one knew them. This moral restraint encouraged holding sex until after marriage. This was the Judeo-Christian paradigm.
Slowly the J-C paradigm has been losing its hold on our society until it is only holding on by a thin thread. The Materialistic paradigm is taking over. The values have changed. Under J-C human life had intrinsic value. Right and wrong was in the warp and woof of the culture. Under Materialism human life has no intrinsic value, but is only valuable as it benefits the community. There are no morals in the Materialistic paradigm, strictly speaking, but every society has to have rules just to function. So a loose morality is accepted that ensures we animals (Materialistic concept) get along together in the society. Much of that morality is the influence of the Judeo-Christian paradigm that has not quite died yet. In the area of sex, at least, the restraint is somewhat off. It is now okay to shack up. That has become accepted. The aberrant behavior is still struggling to free itself of the restraints of the J-C paradigm. However we know wisdom by observing the outcome of our actions. Some consequences are better than others. As we catalog these consequences of our actions, we realize that we want to have good consequences and none of the bad. So we strive to make choices that cause good consequences and finally find ourselves living according to the moral values of the J-C paradigm. Now we do so not because we were taught to do so, but because of hard experiences, we have learned this is best.

There are no rules. There are just morals. Blame it on the parents who don't teach their children morals. I lost mine to the girl I married. It is not like I did not try however to get in there before I got married however. I was old enough to make my own decisions. My Mom did pass on good morals that I hope are being picked up by my own kids.

All right... SOMEONE is living in the era of the prudes. Come on, now. Sexuality is a fluid, universal language! Why not feel good since you don't know when you're going to die? Besides, there are people such as myself who NEVER want to get married. That's just so.... sickeningly hetero. I'm sorry, but I do not wish to partake in a suicide pact.

Let's put this into context. If you have to get on an Airplane to go somewhere do you want an EXPERIENCED pilot or someone who may have just heard that planes fly. I know when I fly I need someone who's flown and landed a plane or two at the controls or else it's just not that great. But in a way flight lessons are good too.........What was the question?

I did, so did my husband. I think in today's society, especially with both parents working, that the kids get their role models off of television and most of them are promiscuous.
