whats with the witch hunt on 4x4 drivers? everyone blames co2 or drivers are idiots but do they really understand 4x4s. i drive a 4x4 freelander 98% of its drive goes to front wheels only like most 4x4when on road its as good as 2 wheel drive (other makes are selectable on/off 4wd) most put out less co2 than old classic cars or some new cars, as far as i see it evey one has the right in this country to say what they want and drive what they want! i use mine off road and wading though the country lanes that flood and often tow out the ppl that moan about 4x4s when there car dies in the middle of the floods. As to the drivers being idiots or cant drive some are most aint i would guess same as any make of car drivers i have seen all cars being driven by idiots at times, bmws, mercs, fords, pugs, citrons its the driver not the car!

I drive a 4Lt Cherokee and also belong to that other hated group, a caravaner! I used to have a Ford Scorpio Estate, longer, wider and MUCH thirstier than the Jeep! It`s strange how the "shrub-huggers" can overcome their prejudice when they are stuck in a muddy lane that their "Eco friendly" tin box with its SAtNav that sent them the wrong way! Laugh, I thought I would have a stroke. And, no, I didn't leave them there! I somehow doubt that they would have even stopped to help me if the roles had been reversed

Unfortunately innocent people like yourself get tarred with the same brush as the people who live in the inner city who take their kids to school in a heavy, inappropriate 4X4 that has probably never had drive to the second axle. As a motorcyclist I get this all the time, people assume I'm some mad nutter with a really fast bike that speeds everywhere, when I'm not. My bike isn't particularly fast or sporty, but it does what I need of it. My father drives a truck, and people say there's too many trucks on the road. How do they think the food gets to their shops? Large goods vehicles are expensive to run so you won't see one making an unnecessary trip. Every vehicle type made has a use in a particular situation, and people like yourself will need a 4X4 and shouldn't be persecuted for it.

You may need a 4x4 but most of the people driving them do not. That is the whole point ! As to having the right to drive what we want, that's only fine as long as we're not fecking up the planet. And an idiot in a huge car is more dangerous than an idiot in a small car, which is something I think no one can deny.

You're wasting your time Matthew, no one on here is able to discuss this subject sensibly. They don't like 4X4's simply because they have 4 wheel drive. Doesn't matter how small or large they are, how economical, how low the Co2 emissions, they will not admit it is only because they have 4 wheel drive. Mention that no one needs a racing car on the roads, especially in London and they will ignore it. Keep driving your 4X4 and ignore their unfounded prejudices.

I know driving in London is difficult but its hardly off-road driving is it!
4X4 in the countryside should be exempt
but,
drivers of Chelsea tractors have them as status symbols,if they can afford the inflated prices for these vehicles they can afford the tax...
do you really need a 4X4 to drive half a mile to take your kid to school?

Most people who drive 4 x 4s do so as a Status symbol. They drive as if they own the road with no regard to pedestrians or other road users. Not all 4x 4 drivers just most drivers. They also think it is all right to drive while having a mobile phone stuck to their ear and one hand on the wheel, they usually do not observe the road speed limit and one driver killed my lovely little niece who was standing quietly on the pavement waiting for her brother.

I drive a ford maverick, and can chose two wheel or four wheel drive through it's second gear box, and unless I drive through deep snow, or thick mud, I only ever have it on two wheel drive, which solely drives the rear wheels. This is a witch hunt, I only decided on the maverick as it has seven seats.

The government wants to look at plane and their emissions before targeting motorists again!!!!
