A god is only a god if someone believes that (noun) to be a god. Personally, I sometimes believe I am a god. And sometimes not. It's all perspective.
If you can be an archetype, then certainly you can be a god. If you can somehow be immortal, then certainly you are a god. If you're worshipped as such, then what's different than the truth?

According to Vedic Scriptures,
Only the Body Is Mortal, The soul is eternal.
Though Soul has same Quality as God, Soul can never become Equal to or Greater than God in any circumstances. God cannot be manufactured.
A Person can at max revive his original powers as a Soul, and those powers are very high. Still its very minute compared to power of God.
In Vedic Scriptures, there is mention of Incarnations of God. It means that God himself comes in some form to this planet. We must hence not understand that some mortal became God. God is God with all the powers even when playing the part of a small Baby.

According to Greek belief one could become a god or goddess by eating the food and drink of the gods (Ambrosia and Nectar). Also if one was descended from the gods, they could granted godhood upon thier death (like Herakles).
Amopng the Romans the belief was that after death the emperor (and cetain select members of the royal family), by decree of the Roman senate, could be declared deified and would be worshipped by the Roman people as a god.
According to Chinese belife one could attain godhood by living a siutably exemplary life as related int he story of the eight Immortals.
According to some other belief systems Eastern Shamanism, Shinto, and some forms of Ancestor Worship, one can become a diety by being worshipped by ones descendants.
It has also been theorized by some anthropologists that some of the ancient deities were, in fact, cultural heroes that became deified within their specific cultrue after generatons of veneration by the people of that culture.
Also, there is a belief among some mystics that a person can attain godhood by accumulating sufficient amounts of knowledge and power over the course of their lifetime.
So, you see, there are several paths that are reputed to lead to diefication (Personally I'm going with the accumulation of power and knowledge myself).

In most ancient cultures you had to do something really impressive and have tales told of you for generation after generation.
Of course, Alexander just bought his way into the Egyptian Pantheos.....
The ancient Celts had an actual school devoted to this, but the curriculum took three whole lifetimes to go thru.....
The truly ancient Sumerians had rituals to go thru which would make changes and intensify your Annunaki heritage.
In modern times, there are Wiccan groups that have procedures that start with: "Once you have learned merging, merge with the All and learn unconditional love for everyone and everything."

If you get enough people to believe in you during your lifetime, you might well become a deity afterwards, look at Jesus of Nazareth, or Gautama Buddha (who has become a god for many, although some of his followers would vehemently deny this)
Ther also is a Polish story about a girl (sorry, forgot the name) who became a goddess after sacrificing herself for her people.

well fistly you need to do many heroic deeds, then you need to make sure that everyone knows your name and that books are written about you. Then you have to die in a heroic way, and then a few thousand years later you MIGHT be known as the son of a god if you are lucky. (oh by the way thats what Achilles did). oh and this is not really posible now-adays cus of technology and stuff that say gods arent real so sorry you missed your chance

The only surefire way that I've heard of is to drown in the Nile. Otherwise, you have to take your chances with heroism and battles and the slaying of monsters. And in the busy modern world, who has time for that?
