When I wash metal cutlery and ceramic crockery the oil and grease comes off easily.

With plastic containers I find it almost impossible.

Why is this?

And what can be done about it?

Wash your plastics first and use Dawn. It's the best dish soap out there to remove grease from dishes. I always wash the plastics in the dishwasher with Cascade. But when I do handwash plastics I always wash them first, before the greasy pots and pans. And I let them sit in the hot soapy water for a few minutes to allow the dish soap to break down the grease.
Dawn is also great for that grease spot on a shirt. Put a small drop on the shirt and let it sit for about 10 minutes and then put it in the washer. Also try adding a tablespoon of white distilled vinegar to help the oil lifting boosting power of the dish soap.

yet another determination besides disposing grease/oil is to render it into bars of cleansing soap!! no longer so some time past, grandma could shop the grease from the Viscount St. Albans pan and make cleansing soap as quickly as a 12 months. sure, you additionally could make cleansing soap utilising in elementary terms Viscount St. Albans grease. Castile cleansing soap is made with merely Olive Oil. however the ultimate cleansing soap recipes have a stability of oils.

It's a matter of surface tension and adhesion.

Water and oil don't mix.

Lithographers have long been exploiting this fact. Water loves aluminum, the plastic-like coating on the plate likes oil-based-ink, and life is good . Ink adheres to the plastic coating; it doesn't adhere to the water-based aluminum, so you can print thousands of images per hour.

The only way to screw it up is to introduced a chemical that bonds water to oil --- that's what we call soap. One of those nasty molecular things. Lots of soap will help you clean that plastic. Good luck!

grease and plastic are both petroleum products.use oxyclean to get off grease or dawn liquid dish washing detergent. those commercials you see for dawn using a teaspoon of soap to wash a sinkful of dishes is not true.i have to add more with the water and lots of hotter water when i use the grill.

Because plastic is made with oil and grease has oil as an ingredient. You can use liquid detergent or vinegar to clean (use them, then soap and water)... good luck.

They stick because each is a film. It is like when you get to pieces of Saran Wrap stuck together. I put on detergent alone so I know I am getting it on evenly then rinse, and repeat. If you notice, the tomato stain proof Rubbermaid dishes are less filmy, and kind of rough to prevent the kind of even overlay I am talking about.

Because plastic absorb liquid in very small amounts. This lead to the stains that you will get on polyethylene containers.-IE tuperware and other plastic bottles and containers.
