To be honest, if the Sonic manage to trade away Ray Allen and his $85 million dollar contract, they are probably going to get a bunch of bad players in return and head to the lottery.
I feel that the problem is not Allen, because perimeter shooting is the main strength of the Sonics. With Rashard Lewis and Luke Ridnour as other perimeter scoring threats and Chris Wilcox taking care of post scoring, the Sonics are set from the point guard down to the power forward positions. (e.g. Ridnour at point; Allen at SG; Lewis at SF; and Wilcox at PF)
Their problem lies in the middle. Seattle doesn't have any bonafied center, In the last three NBA drafts they have tried to acquire a decent center by drafting Robert Swift in 2004 (out this season with a torn ACL), Johan Petro in 2005 (currently playing but recently diagnosed to have had an irregular heartbeat), and Mouhamed Saer Sene (rumored to be sent down to the developmental league) this year instead of Duke star J.J. Redick.
Hope this helps!

Trade Allen for who? Who can the Sonics get for him? I'd only trade him if I couldn't get him to re-sign with the team.

Yes, Allen is not the type of offense they need, they need somone who can drive to the hoop better, like Jason Richardson

No. What I think they should do is build the team around him, kind of like what they did with Steve Nash and the Suns and what they are doing with Jermaine O'Neal and the Pacers (Go Pacers!), then things might be better for them. I hope that answers your question.

I think he's perfect for them. They like to run and gun. Plus him and Lewis love to jack up 3s. He signed a huge 5 year 80 million contract the other season anyways, he's not going anywhere IMO.

I think so. They are not winning and will not be winning any time soon. I think they should trade for someone who can shoot 3s and still drive to the post.
