Modern stressors include noise, air, water pollution, poor nutrition, dangerous machinery, impersonal work, isolation, poverty, homelessness, and substance abuse. Health problems in industrial nations are as much caused by economic, social, political, and cultural factors as by pathogens.

Specialisation, doing particular job or task making person less balanced in thinking and development, urbanisation and isolation from natural environment, pollution, increase use of scarce natural resources, extreme poverty of some sections, break up of extended family, new diseases, greed, materialistic demands, diminishing meaningful relationships, increase stress, inability to think for one's self, dependence on the state and on others, easily lead by advertising and marketing, inability to relax, impatience and demand for quick fix solutions, financial debt, problem of what to do with waste.
