Your stomach, or "gut" will usually give you a good indication of whether something or someone is good or bad for you, or if there is something amiss in a situation, but the heart just goes for the good in all things/people without looking for consequences. Thats my take on it anyways :o)

Anatomically stomach and heart are different functions to perform. The heart purifies the blood; the stomach through the food eaten after assimilation, enriches the blood. If stomach were the factory, the place of manufacturing, the heart is the supply head or market man, carrying the end product to the its designated destination. We often associate heart with feeling, and ascribe no such tender function to the stomach, a sort of proletariat. The stomach also feels, what is called the gut feeling. You often feel the 'butterfly in your stomach', Anatomically also, any trouble in the stomach, like too much of eating or gastritis etc spell trouble for the heart. Another pertinent connection between stomach and heart is that the way to heart is through stomach.Hence, both are not totally unconnected.

We're in philosophy, so I assume you mean the metaphoric uses of those words, not the body organs involved. Presumably you know the differences there.

Stomach means "courage" in a certain sense, and so does "heart." The implications are a bit different, however. Stomach generally refers to the squeamishness we often feel when forced to do something difficult. The clearest example for moderns is the prospect of killing your own food. Many people never could, including myself; we have no "stomach" for the task.

Heart refers to the sort of courage that goes on despite fears for one's safety, not merely fears for one's lunch.

The stomach is what alerts you whether to do something or not. The heart is what hurts if you go ahead and do what the gut feeling told you not to do.
