The reason all life on Earth is carbon based is because of some of the unique qualities of the element, such as the way it binds to other elements (it's quite complicated to explain - just trust me on this point!)

Silicone shares enough of these qualities to make it a viable alternative to carbon in terms of organic life. We're not sure why carbon ended up being the basis of life on Earth - it may be pure chance. However, if there is life on other planets, then (as far as we know) it would be based either on carbon or silicon.

yes, in fact the nearest soalr system is said to have a planet which matches earths atmosphere. This would infer that it is possible. Alpha Centauri is the name of the solar system

Either that or carbon, the only things that have enough flexible molecular bonds to pull it off.

shore! if on other planets exist intelligent life, and if they are more advanced than we are, I'm shore that they developed robotic life! in fact our first meeting with creatures from other planets might be with a silicon- based robot than a carbon creature!

that's possible,silicon comes from sand ,they are minerals,plus silicon based implants are compatible in the human body
