I'm in the market for a new MP3 player and Ebay is selling an insignia 2GB player awfully cheap. I went to eponions.com and read 4 really negative reviews that basically stated the Insignia brand is crap. Does anyone own this brand? Can you share your thoughts, your opinions? Thanks - VL

Insignia is basically Best Buy's "house brand", and only available via retail at Best Buy (or 2nd hand, such as eBay). It is a common practice for large retailers to establish a separate brandname that is exclusive to their store so they can have sales without affecting other merchandise or deal with price-matchers. CompUSA has their "Norwood Micro" line of products, in a similar vein.

IMHO, Insiginia stuff is not any better or worse than others, but they are considered 2nd rate mainly due to lack of brand name recognition, and lack of support except at Best Buy.

As for your question about your MP3 player... Those are cheap nowadays, and by the time this one goes out you'd probably want a newer one with more memory and more features any way. If it's the right price, and you can't find anything else comparable, then go for it. If there are other brands at the same price range, then I'd pick the other stuff, even if it's a few bucks more.
