Desire.
The desire for personal gain, the desire to benefit another, the desire to accomplish an objective.

Whether with good or bad intentions, that source of motivation remains unchanged.

I never understand what people mean when they talk about human nature, unless it's some weird mishmash of the totality of our institutions, our language and economies and whatever shared moral intuitions we have, etc.

Increasingly, I believe it likely that most everything psychological and cognitive -- even consciousness, in most senses of the word (self-consciousness, for example, strikes me as a special case, for a number of reasons), and perhaps whatever freedom of will we have -- will be explained by biological mechanisms.

But it's just probably, to my thinking!

I'm actually taking a Motivation class for my psych major right now!

There are alot of things that motivate behavior. People look at it from various perspectives: Biological, Learned and Cognitive.

Biological centers around chemicals in the brain, what stimulates you/ your level of arousal. Instincts and Needs. (check out maslows heirarchy of needs)

Learned means how you grow up and are conditioned, your habits and how they are re-inforced. (check out Skinner)

Cognitive is evaluation of risks and what it will get you. (check out Jean Piaget)

that was really basic, drop me an e-mail if you want to chat more! its this username @yahoo.com. :)

Human nature is purely instinctive, but man in his better self is also intellectual and intuitive and each of us uses the three-fold combination according to his own background and temperment!
