Star: the American Thanksgiving is different from our's because the harvest comes sooner in Canada because of our cooler climate. It is not stupid.

Yes, most of the answers here are correct, it is the 4th Sunday, which happens to be the 23rd, and NOT the last Thursday of the month.

But the real reason I wanted to answer this question, is because, I wondered why some one from Canada, would even be worried about our Thanksgiving day, much less think that it's lame! It is a day to give thanks, it does not matter how soon to Christmas it is! Heck, New Years is just a week after Christmas, (hence the saying the "holiday season"), maybe we should move it, so the Canadians don't think were lame!

some canucks apparently failed geography in not realizing that the further south one goes the later the season changes particularly with the harvest. Those further north have their harvest sooner than those further south.

Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of Nov as established by FDR. This year it's Nov 23.

American Thanksgiving is on Nov 23, 2006. I inderstand the historic significence of this event, however, I always thought it was so strange that the holiday was so close to Christmas. Perhaps the fact that I am Canadian and our Thanksgiving is early October, that makes me think that American Thanksgiving is kind of lame.
