I noticed in myself that my mood is off lately. Easily irritated. I am not normally like this. I am almost 42, am I going through another change??? I got put on antidepressants today. Isn't there another way to resolve or to not act this way anymore. Or am I to take these pills for the rest of my life. I am trying to figure out how to put my irritations, in to giving me something positive to conteract the negatives. Like exercise or something.

exercise is good, hobbies, anything that'll keep you busy. another thing is to be aware when you start feeling irritated. My father suffers from depression, he even had to admit himself into a hospital a few years ago. I was worried after he was released because he didn't want to take the meds. I was also very worried because he was moving to another city. He lived close by so it was easier to monitor him, but I worried about him moving further because I wouldn't be able to keep an eye on him. So we discussed his symptoms in detail, what were the things I noticed before he fell into a deep depression, what were things he noticed. He agreed that if he noticed any symptoms he would let me know right away so that we can nip it in the bud. He's been doing well. Of course I still worry but we check in with each other. And he has a new wife (1 yr now) and she keeps him pretty busy.

I myself suffered from off moods. I was dealing with alot, my father, problem employees at work, problem family members. Everything was spiraling. I started noticing myself starting to get angry quickly and I was getting sick alot. In 1 of my doctors visits, I was put on a low dosage of some med....fluxo something. I really didn't want to take it but I'm glad I did. I only took them for a couple of months. This was last year. Now I'm back to my old self. And though things haven't really calmed down (except for my father but I still worry), I can handle my emotions. I keep busy with my daughter and my hobbies like painting, drawing, reading. AND I've adopted the attitude of "it's not worth it" and THAT has helped a whole lot. I ask "is it really worth stressing over? or getting sick over? or compromising my emotional, mental, spiritual health over?" Or my other mantra "go ahead and act stupid, you're the one that has to live with yourself" I use this one when dealing with idiot people.

I'm not a doctor. but, i have to tell you, it is sad that the number of people on antidepressants is growing... you go to a doctor with a bad mood, hormonal or not-this is not the issue- and gives pills right away ! the problem needs to be fought on its root. WHAT is the problem is the first question and CAN it be solved through thorough psychotherapy without taking any pills. i myself have tried antidepressants, tranquilizers. you want the truth ? they are all a big pile of ****. i still haven't found what i'm looking for or what my choices should be. the real problem has always been ME. Is it possible that your real problem is YOU? i'm not implying anything, just wondering. but, what i've made of all MY experience is that that's what life is all about. maybe we should stop dreaming and wanting and focus on everyday life and how to gain it back. THINK OF THE CAUSE OF YOUR IRRITATION . AND WHEN YOU FIND IT, ERADICATE IT.

Positives thoughts can help alot too. Give yourself some room, what I mean is don't take life so seriously. Watch comedy's, read a funny book too. Just start reinventing yourself. I am 48 and returned back to college. Maybe take a class in something that you have always been interested in. Something positive I did was to volunteer with the Deaf/Blind. I also work with disabled Veterans and when you give of yourself you really get back so much in return too. So there are alot of options but if your not thinking to clearly some days, then don't beat yourself up about it, take a nice bubble bath with candles and music and just relax.

That's one of the problems with "Modern Medicine" they have a pill for everything! You mentioned going through another change? It takes 5 to 15 years to complete menopause, maybe your mood swings are a continuation of the change?

you could adopt a kitty or puppy or bunny! or
take a walk in the woods. Hook up with a good friend you can feel relaxed enough to be yourself around and just hang out, just be.. dont think too much about it.
