I believe a plane crashed into the Empire State Building about 60-70 years ago.
There was also a tragic incident involving the Empire State Building, airplanes, and a giant gorilla named King Kong. Whether any of the planes trying to attack the gorilla ever actually crashed into any skyscraper is a matter of speculation. King Kong, however, was finally taken down and a small blond lady in his huge hands was valiantly rescued. It had all the makings of a great movie! -RKO-

Yes, the second answerer is right. A World War 2 type bomber crashed head on into the Empire State Building in 1945.

I imagine it may have happened before on accident but not on the scale of 9/11. If you mean for terrorism During WW2 The Germans actually had plans in the works to make bombers to attack the skyscrapers of Manhattan and either explode on impact or release poison gas over crowds but they couldn't develope a plane that could travel far enough to make the trip to New York let alone carry enough of a payload to do any damage.

I believe a military plane hit the empire state building during world war two.
While there was signifigant damage to part of the building, obviously it did not collapse.

yes. when the twin towers were first built I believe a small commuter plane struck one of the towers.
there are about 42 reported accidents of planes and sky scrapers over history.
an army plane crashed into one back in the 40's in a dense fog.

yes i belive before the WTC was bombed(by terrorists) there was a single engine plane that was intentionally crashed into it(by a terrorist) in the 80's i belive

yes... I think it was durning or just after WWII.. Seems to me a B-17 went down in NY
