[edit] Notable cover versions
Johnny Nash "Stir It Up" (1972)
Eric Clapton "I Shot the Sheriff" ("461 Ocean Boulevard", 1974)
Shakespear's Sister "Could You Be Loved" (Sacred Heart, 1989)
Lauryn Hill with Bob Marley "Turn the Lights Down Low" (Chant Down Babylon, 1999)
Damian Marley "And Be Loved" (Blue Crush soundtrack, 2002)
This is got to be what you were thinking of!
Eric Clapton "I Shot the Sheriff"
I've never hear Bob Marley do Hotel California. He did cover Go Tell It On the Mountain. I've never hear of anyone in Rock and Roll covering a Reggae tune. Reggae artists are famous for covering tunes by non Reggae artists!

The Eagles were formed in 1971...hence the album title
GREATEST HITS 71-75...
