I am writing a narrative, and I cannot find any female names that were Carthaginian. Carthage - An ancient civiliztion (maybe you have heard of Hannibal Barca, who crossed the Alps, with war elephants?)

Yeah, so if anyone knows any Carthaginian female names, it will be much appreciated.

Thanks.

The most famous Carthaginian woman would, of course, have been Dido, who fell in love with the Greek Aeneas.

Geoffrey Dunn has done research into female Carthaginian names and, although he cannot prove they actually were from Carthage, he has unearthed some names of women who certainly lived there.

These are Metucosa, Valeria, Celerina, Perpetua, Felicitas, Cornelia and Emerita.

Hope this helps with your narrative.

Sofonobisa was a relative of Hasdrubal (although not Barca, the other one). Pick other phoenician names.

I believe the name of Carthage mythological founder was Elisa, sister of Phoenician king Pygmalion. Virgil used that story for the Eneid, but instead of using the original, he used the name of Dido.

Elissa is the other name of dido, but some think it is an eponym as Elisah is used for the western areas in the Bible.
Sophonisba's original name was something like Safan-baal.

Imilce was a Spanish woman that Hannibal Barca took as wife, but the name itself may be Phonician (m-l-k = Chief).
