The problem may be in the windows media player.Window media player does not have the MPEG-2 codec and a dvd decoder in it. either you have to install another dvd player such as Intervideo home theatre, or power dvd etc. These softwares often are given away in a software cd that comes with the computer or the dvd drive; Once you install one of these, windows media player will play DVDs Or There are some dvd decoder plugins given on microsoft's website below.

the worm likely wiped out some of your run-related files like .ini files or .dll files. no way to trace it without knowing code, which i assume you do not.

Solution is to go back and re-install the DVD software
