I'm the mother of identical twins so I hear these types of questions alot:
1. Identical twins (monozygotic) are from one egg that splits. All pregnancies have a 1 in 250 chance of being identical twins. This is not impacted by age, ethnicity, fertility drugs, or family history.
2. Fraternal twins (dizygotic) occur when the female produces two eggs in the same cycle. Some factors include fertility drugs, higher maternal age, ethnicity (for instance more common in African Americans less common in Asians), and family history.
3. Because it is up to the female to produce two eggs at once a family history of fraternal twins is only relevant on the female's side.
So, while it is possible for a woman who's husbands family has twins in it to have twins herself, it wouldn't be due to family history but more likely one of the other factors I mentions. However, if this couple were to have a daughter, she could consider the twins in her father's family to be part of her "family history of twins".
Hope this helps!

I do not think you will have twins.
If you had a family history (mother or grandmother of twins then there is a chance that you could drop two eggs and have fraternal twins. This is called hyperovulation and is a hereditary condition.
For identical twins there is no heredity involved. It is an accident when one egg splits into two. However, I have heard that a male passes a gene to his daughters so I the girls are twins they will likely have twins.
So chances are better if you both has a history of twins.

The short answer is "yes." Many times twins don't form in the womb until after conception, when an embryo divides; that's how identical twins happen. The genetic information for that to happen can come from either the father OR the mother. I'd say if your partner is a twin (especially identical twin), you've probably got a lot better odds of having twins yourself. Whether the male can influence multiple ovulations, I don't know - although for all I know it could be something in the seminal fluid that triggers that as well.

If you are in your late 30's you are more likely have a double ovulation in one month. Also, If you are taking Clomid, you have about a 10% chance of having twins.
His fact of being a twin has no bearing on you having twins. Identical twins happen because the fertilized egg splits into two other eggs - a completely random event. Even if he is a fraternal twin, it would mean that his mom had two eggs ovulate in one month (a double ovulation). Your mother in law is no way related to you so the fact that she released two eggs will have no bearing on you.
If your mother was a fraternal twin, or maternal grandmother was - then I'd be wondering too if I was going to have twins. That is inherited on the maternal side in many cases.
Good luck to you!

When it comes to twins, it's all about the egg :-) So no, whether or not the man has twins in his family has no bearing on the chances of the woman conceiving twins.

yes, it is all in the genetics
since his dna is half the baby's.
as most times twins skip a generation he may be the one to pass on the genetic code for his children to have twins
if twins is more prevalent in his side of the family's history then I would take that into account weither or not his kids could be twins

Producing twins, while can be linked to genetics, can pretty much happen to anyone. It has been a while since I read about having twins, but if I remember right, it is one of those things that usually skips a generation. We are not having twins, my wife is relieved!

It's possible but not because of his background. His family history does not make a woman expell two eggs.

Anyone can have twins. I don't know if it'd increase your odds but any children you have in the future have a higher risk of having multipules.
