Always treat your nails as if you've just had them polished. Instead of using your nails for the daily exercise of scraping, picking, pulling and opening, use the pads of your fingertips. Along with preventing splitting, chipping and breaking, this will make your hands look more elegant.

When cleaning the house and doing the dishes, be sure to wear gloves; prolonged exposure to water can cause nail damage because it will dry out your skin and nails. Tips to prevent nail polish chipping: reapply the top coat regularly, even daily, and try to avoid using fast-drying polishes that don't last as long as regular nail polishes

I recommend you buff your nails first with a good buffing creme, and a good buffer. You can find what you need at a beauty supply. Choose your color, then find a good base clear coat. Let it dry good, then apply your polish. The misconception is the more you have on your brush the better, this is not so. Apply a very sparse coast let it dry completely, then apply another. and maybe a 3rd. Their is a good product that is to apply on top of your final coat. This actually seals the polich & prevents it from chipping. Good Luck~!!

Make sure your nails are clean and dry before apply any nail polish this means clean of any polish remover residue, make sure to use a base and top coat as well. Use base coat then apply polish wait about 5 minutes and apply top coat if you are really rough on your hands you can apply two layers of top coat and then let dry about 15 minutes

You could go through the trouble of base coat, color, top coat, yada yada, OR you could just get a good brand. I go for OPI and even though it's a little more expensive (around 7.50) it is well worth it. You're nail will grow out and leave a gap btwn your nail and your skin before it chips. It's the greatest!

I've learned to never shake a bottle of polish... this causes air bubbles and when you stroke the polish on, the bubbles are transferred to your nails making it more likely that the polish will chip... roll the bottle between your hands

How about using a top coat clear varnish ? You could try using OPI nail polishes - expenisive but fab !!! Other tips .... use rubber gloves when washing up because moisture helps to ruin the varnish ! Not good ! :S Hope this helps, xXx
