No, not necessarily. When you find the book you want at the price you want, click on Bookseller & Payment Information. Payment Methods will be listed in the column at the right, but I recommend that you also read the text under Terms of Sale at the left.
For a book that I just found, the Payment Methods listed are MasterCard and Visa only; yet under Terms of Sale, I found the following statement:
"We accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express as well as checks and money drafts drawn on U.S. banks, and money orders in U.S. currency."
With a single click, you may also View the Bookseller's Homepage (which will usually give you a telephone #, sometimes an 800-number) or you may Ask the Bookseller a Question.
Because I do not give credit card information over the internet, I usually ask the bookseller whether the book I've located is still available. If so, I ask him/her to hold it for me until I call in the credit card # or post payment by regular mail. I never purchase through abebooks, but only directly from the bookseller. Some of them do not accept credit cards for direct purchases; therefore, I pay them by check or money order.
Almost all booksellers offer you several ways to make payment. It's to their advantage to do so. YOU are the customer.
Good luck in your book collecting!
