Today, I got change from the cleaners after I paid, and one of the coins I got back was a 1976 Kennedy Half-dollar. It is different from the other half dollars the same way the 1976 drummer-boy quarter is different from regular quarters. I just wanted to know if this coin is rare.
Thanks.

1976 was the bicentennial year for the U.S.. The quarter, half and Ike dollar were made as commemorative coins for that year. None are rare and the reason you don't see many, is that they are getting old, but most are in peoples drawers as souvenirs. There were 234,308,000 halves minted at the Philadelphia mint, as well as 287,565,248 minted at the Denver mint. The San Francisco mint made coins for the collector, around 22,059,099 of them in different metals uncirculated or in Proof. The ones worth anything are the collector made ones, that have some silver in them and only in high grade. Sorry to disapoint you. Keep an eye open for there are valuable coins still out there and they are not all that old. There is a 1995 double die cent out there worth $50.00 and up plus others.

These coins are fairy rare. The Drummer Boy quarter was like only made in 1973. The Kennedy Half dollar isn't really worth a whole lot of money. Hold onto the quarter. In like 10 or 20 more years it will probably be worth money.

If the Date is in fact 1945, you just might have the rarest Buffalo Nickel ever known. But more realistically, the coin in question is probably worn to the point that it looks distorted. Its still worth around $1 to some people.

If there is a demand for these coins from numismatists, then it is a rare one.
Talk to some coin dealers in your area.
You could keep it safe somewhere for 50 years and then it would be definitely rare in 2050.

depends on the condition, but i doubt since it's still in circulation that it's worth any more than face value. BUT someone may have gotten desperate and cashed in a collection. check the mint mark and look for anything 'unusual' (error coin?)

A mint state 63 would be worth $1.50-$4.00 depending on mint mark.
