in windows xp if i run msconfig(in dos prompt msconfig and enter) then i can see all programs which run on startup of computer and delete them(so that it will not start when my computer starts) if not required. but how to do the same thing in win 98 or win 2000. pls tell me

Wrong answer. "msconfig" exists under 98 SE & ME. Under 2000 you can copy msconfig.exe from C:\Windows on an XP system and copy it to C:\winnt on the 2000 box.

i'm afraid that there is no such thing in windows 2k or 98, you need to edit registry if you want to see what programs run at statup...it's very simple, go to Start/Run type regedit/ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SOFTWARE / MICROSOFT / WINDOWS /CURRENT VERSION / RUN' there you can see all programs that are executed at startup...

also there are files like autoexect.bat in c:\ , config.sys winini.sys that can run programs at startup, edit them and search for Load = string....

p.s. same thing can be done with windows xp, msconfig is just an interface, it still edits everything in the registry

I forget where it is but there is such a thing. Last I found it I just typed something like, 'stop startup in windows 98', like into Google, and I found it.
