Most women feel the baby by around 20-24 weeks. It depends on your body type too. If you're super skinny, you'll most likely feel it sooner. If you're over weight, it may we a while before you feel it. My sis-in-law is a little over weight and had a hard time feeling the baby (in general) until she was like 28 weeks.

The best way to feel the baby is: lay down an hour before you want to go to bed. Drink something cold--because cold makes the baby move. (warm makes it comfortable and sleepy.) Press your hands on your abdomen and be very still. Start counting any roll, punch, etc.

Personally, I had a difficult feeling the baby while I was moving. Further along in my pregnancy (28-30 weeks), I finally started feeling him while I was standing.

It's different with everyone. If you're concerned about the baby's well-being, I definitely suggest seeing your dr asap. (your baby should move 10 times in a 1-2 hour period.)

Since you say 4 months I gather you mean 17wks...
Normally you will start feeling butterflies after 16 wks and if this is your 1st even longer.
What you might have felt is gas, many times new mothers think what they feel is movement isn't.
I found this out when I got my ultrasound at 17wks. The baby was moving all around and kicking, but I didn't feel a thing where before in the week I swore I did feel movement. The Dr told me it was probally gas and most new mothers don't feel anything till 18-20+ wks.
Around 20wks I got my 1st kick but was a week before my next then at 21wks I would feel her every couple days.
I am now 22wks and feel her everyday.

One way to help you feel the baby, is after eating lay on your left side. Eating usally boosts your sugar levels and will wake the baby. Also taking a warm bath (not hot) will boost your blood flow and wake the baby.

I didn't feel my baby until I was 20 weeks and I still don't feel movement everyday and I am almost 23 weeks. I hear the baby's heartbeat all the time at home with my doppler but can't always feel movement. I am sure everything is ok, if you have concerns call your doctor.

Don't worry. If everything was normal 2 weeks ago, than not much will have changed. however, if you still can't feel your baby by the end of your fifth month, you should talk to your doctor. Best of luck!

My second child hardly ever moved the whole time I was pregnant. It was the strangest thing. I always worried, especially when it was late in my pregnancy. Now he's a healthy 7-year-old who never stops moving. I guess he was just resting up for life in this great big world. I'm sure your child is too. Enjoy the peace while you still have it! :)
